I think that Jeff is looking ahead when he thinks that Web 2.0 apps are trying to look like native desktop apps for a given platform (they mostly and thinks that wrong to apply desktop app UI metaphors to Web 2.0 apps (borrowing from desktop UI metaphors is not just right and necessary, but the whole point of SaaS). SaaS is fundamentally just about another way to deliver rich applications.

Sure, much of the plumbing is different between desktop and web apps, just as the plumbing changed dramatically from character-mode full-screen UIs to custom GUIs to standard GUIs; that plumbing may make some things easier or harder, but largely independent of what the user sees. For example, on all of the technologies I just mentioned, some apps chose to present some common UI elements, such as nested menus (remember 1-2-3?). But plumbing is largely independent of UI, and we were talking about UI.

As far as the UI that we present goes, of course we will and should combine UI metaphors from both native desktop app conventions and Web 1.0/2.0 app conventions. Each already borrows from the other, so that convergence is (a) already in progress, and (b) going both ways. Any UI element on either a desktop app or a web app can already be presented in the other, with varying amounts of and consistency of appearance.

For an example in the other direction, where desktop apps and OSes have already borrowed from web UI metaphors, consider that URLs and hyperlinks are now widely-integrated within desktop applications and desktop OS windowing shells, not only as enabling embedding of traditional URL functionality, but as applying hyperlink look-and-feel for non-URL functionality like clicking on a subdirectory to navigate their. Are those desktop apps and environments somehow wrongheaded for to look like a web I think so.

I wonder how many of the commenters above remember the DOS GUI days that I mentioned as a direct analogy. Clearly Conrad, who commented today on blog, gets it. Quoting selectively from his comment, he states most of the same things I did:

No, a 32 bit system see all of the RAM, but I put it in anyway, and why:

1) The price difference between 3GB and 4GB is minimal.

If you buy different capacity sticks (ie 2GB + 1GB), your memory will not run in dual channel. Dual channel is faster.

3) My system sees 3.3GB of RAM, so it uses most of it.

4) Your next system may take at least 4GB RAM, so why not buy RAM with the future in mind?

5) I even bought PC6400, knowing fully that the Gt5404 would slow it down to PC5300. Again- thinking about my future rig…

Incorrect. A PC simply ignores the extra RAM that it use, but it become slower! I just checked Newegg: 3GB of pc5300(2GB +1GB)RAM costs $46. 4GB of PC6400(2GB + 2GB DUAL channel) runs $48. a no brainer.

So, for anyone looking to flog their gt5404 for a few more years, this is what you need:

-4GB PC6400 (DDR2-800 same thing)
-NON-ecc ONLY, ecc work
-1.8 volts, no more, no less

If you believe me about this RAM capacity, go to Crucial.com and download their mobo scanner, it will confirm that the d945gcl takes 4GB RAM. Then buy your RAM at Newegg- way cheaper. Good luck!

10 drives – with close to 1.2TB and almost 90% full. Not Bad.

It has saved me 4Gb in my Macbook. I am really happy with it.

With Google Reader you click the title and it gives you the full in google…..altered for the mobile display.

With Feeder…you click the title it opens up the original website, not formatted for mobile.

The only thing I was hoping for feeder was a more intuitive interface for going back and as it stands now…I will have to continue using Google Reader..as reading the at the original website is terrible and not what google reader was designed for.

Am I missing something?

But you know what this means, you? It means that all these years that spent learning in a Yeshiva in hopes of seeing naked shiksehs have been in vain!

3 Days before Day 1: Ate a Mango, including getting the flesh out of the skin with my teeth after lunch. Did not wash face until that night.
Day 1: Noticed a couple little bumps on lips, and thought they were really chapped. Applied regular lip gloss (Carmex) as usual.
Day 2: Woke up with swollen, inflamed, blistery, painful, itchy lips. They looked and felt AWFUL.
: Applied vaseline and scoured the internet to figure out what was going on.
: Figured out it was a mango allergy, but sure what to do for it. Stopped applying vaseline because some said it might be bad for poison ivy types of reactions because it keeps blisters from drying out.
: Took an hour to try to help with the allergic reaction
: Bought Ivarest Poison Ivy Itch Relief Cream and Benadryl Itch Stopping Cream.
: Took an advil and applied the Ivarest at 6pm to my lips and surrounding skin area, and the Benadryl cream that night after washing my face, before bed.
– Incidentally, both are SUPER painful – burning, drying, etc. on your lips.
Day 3: Woke up and lips looked only slightly better – the blisters were drying up a bit from the creams.
: Took an advil, and applied Ivarest at 9:30am
: Took an hour to try to help with the allergic reaction
: Applied Benadryl cream at 2pm and again at 5:30pm
: Applied Ivarest before bed
Day 4: Woke up and lips looked better – good enough that I was only somewhat to have to go out of the house that day
: While outside the house, I removed the Ivarest/Benadryl and applied Lip Clear Lysine+ (a cold sore treatment) because it also claimed to dry out blisters (albiet of a different kind), is fairly clear, and is safe for use on your mouth (The others probably ideal for use on your mouth)
: Applied Ivarest at night
Day 5, 6, 7: Each night I applied Ivarest (again it is SUPER PAINFUL – burning, etc.), and during the day I used Lysine. Each day my lips looked progressively better.
: My lips and the area around them were peeling constantly from Days 4-8 – the nasty blistered skin was flaking off. It was gross, but I tried not to mess with it and just let it come off naturally.
Day 8: The last night I used Ivarest
By Day 9, my lips look almost completely better. There were few spots on the skin around my lips that to get red or inflamed until around Days 4-6, and those are still a bit red, but my lips are pretty much back to normal.
Day 10 and 11, just using regular Bees Honey lip balm, and trying to get my mouth back to non-dryed out state. But aside from dry skin around my mouth, everything looks pretty much normal.

I know if the methods I used were ideal to treat this, but I figured at least pass them along so have the type of info I looked for when I first figured out what was wrong – and an idea of how long your lips would look so gross and be so painful!

You are probably seeing the new Google reader. Though its okay, I liked the older Google reader, because I really go to the Google reader website, but I use the aggregated RSS feeds feature so I can have all my feeds going into a Firefox live bookmark.

From there I just click and view, no need for a separate interface.

I never know going to resonate with people. I just write, or post what I have an interest in, or happened to me and if most of them hit the target, then happy. pleased to say that I get a decent amount of comments that I can respond to for most of my posts (now).

Over a ride, a lot of your energy goes towards rolling resistance. In ride is flat and with little elevation, even more. Few turns to brake for, even more. Soft, loose or wet soil, even more still. I can run up to 70%+ of your energy. Even in the typical race, where it would be say 40%, shaving 10% off that will be huge, 4% (or 10-12W) less power required to manage the same laptimes.

A super-fast tire is if you come to a halt in hard corners though, heaps of time are lost that way. Carrying a full Camelbag as an extra handicap will make it noticably harder to stay with your own level riders, but that penalty is a huge multifold of what 29″ adds by design. When I rode my 29″er with a rear tube filled with 3.5kg of water (see MTBR thread on that), it was annoying for sure, but not to a point that people would notice something to be “wrong” with my performance.

If Crows were to be established as rolling just as fast as the very fastest 26″ tire (whichever that would be), they could weigh 700g for what I care. be a safe bet to round a lap quickly. I am totally psyched by the sub-500g weight though. been hoping for 510g for almost a year, and getting 466g.
Lightest 26″ tires I raced with some frequency: Maxxis Monotaur 380g (real skinny, grippy on grass and wet mud), Schwalbe Fast Fred 2.0 (370g), 2.35″ (495g) and Jimmy 2.1 (495g).

Interesting about the Crows and possibly what makes them work well, is the main knobs that are similar to the Kenda but lower and turned 45º. Also, the sides have a band of micro-knob surface between the actual knobs. not seen that a lot, looks grippy.
